Town of Benton Awarded Over $5.3 Million for Sewer Improvements Amid Population Growth
In response to significant population growth in Bossier Parish, officials in the Town of Benton held a press conference on Friday, April 11, to announce a major infrastructure investment aimed at expanding and improving the town’s sewer system.
The event, held at Benton Town Hall, featured remarks from Mayor James Friday and State Senator Adam Bass, both of whom emphasized the importance of the project in keeping pace with the town’s rapid expansion. The press conference followed the approval of a $5,346,400 grant from the Water Sector Program Phase 2 (WSP-P2), recommended by the Water Sector Commission (WSC) and approved by the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget (JLCB).
Driven by a 138,000-person population increase in Bossier Parish in 2024, Benton is facing mounting pressure on its infrastructure. With estimates projecting an average of 2.5 new residents per home built, the town is taking proactive steps to ensure its water and sewer systems can meet the growing demand.
The grant funding will be used for key upgrades, including the construction of a larger lift station near the Bossier Parish Courthouse and the consolidation of the town’s two sewer plants. The south sewer facility will be tied into the north plant, streamlining operations and increasing capacity.
Mayor Friday and Senator Bass both underscored that these improvements are essential not only for handling the current population surge but also for sustaining future growth. The investment is expected to allow the town to accommodate more homes, businesses, and public facilities by expanding access to reliable water and sewer services.
As Benton continues its upward trajectory, town officials remain committed to aligning infrastructure development with smart, strategic planning to maintain quality of life and support a thriving community.
Once started, this project will take approximately five years to complete.
