Speaker Johnson Appoints Bossier Sheriff Whittington to the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
WASHINGTON — On Monday, Speaker Mike Johnson appointed Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington to the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, an independent organization within the executive branch focused on better serving at-risk children and youth. Speaker Johnson issued a statement announcing his appointment:
“I am honored to appoint my good friend, Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington to the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. For the last 14 years, Sheriff Whittington has done exceptional work to make Bossier Parish a safe and thriving community for families,” Speaker Johnson said. “His leadership in law enforcement has earned national recognition, and I have no doubt he will bring invaluable expertise to the Council. I am confident Sheriff Whittington will represent Bossier Parish and the State of Louisiana with distinction.”
Background:
The Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention was established by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA) of 1974 as an independent organization of the Executive Branch, to assist with cross-agency coordination of juvenile delinquency programs across the federal, state, and local levels. It is comprised of twenty-three total members, thirteen representing federal agencies. The Attorney General of the United States serves as the Chair of the Council. Ten juvenile justice practitioners throughout the nation are appointed, with only three by the Speaker of the House of Representatives. See more about membership here.
Sheriff Whittington began his career as a patrol deputy in 1988 and was elected as Sheriff of Bossier Parish in 2011. Among his many distinguished achievements, he notably graduated from the FBI National Academy, served as Chairman of the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Advisory Board and President of the Louisiana's Sheriff Association and has received national recognition for his commitment to safeguarding the community.
Sheriff Whittington’s appointment to the Council has been entered into the Congressional Record of the United States House of Representatives. Click here to view entries into the Congressional Record.
