Psych Department receives 100 percent match rate for doctoral student internships
Ruston, Louisiana - The Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences (PBS) in the College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) recently received a 100 percent match rate of internship placements for its six doctoral students in counseling psychology.
“Having all of our students match indicates that they are well trained and meet the standards of training for the field of psychology,” Dr. Walter Buboltz, director of training counseling psychology, said.
The match process is nationally competitive where doctoral students compete for year-long training positions around the country. Institutions where the students have been accepted include the Alexandria VA Health Care System, Mississippi State Hospital, G.V. Montgomery VA Medical Center, Auburn University, and the National Psychology Training Consortium.
PBS has maintained a 100 percent match rate for the past decade, showcasing its consistent dedication to preparing students for successful careers in psychology.
“Through my internship placement, I’ll be able to further my career and get one step closer to being a psychologist,” Kristen Hooper, counseling psychology doctoral candidate, said. “I’m excited to learn from clinicians in a new setting and absorb everything I can in the coming year.”
To ensure a successful outcome, the program has developed a three-quarter sequence to help students prepare materials for the application process.
“We’ve been preparing for this since our very first day in the doctoral program almost 4 years ago, and now we’re reaping the benefits of all our hard work and late nights,” Hooper said.
